I was Sharon’s first student. We were both 11yrs old and she’d teach me duets. We sang and danced together in the garage of her parent’s home for hours on end.  If performing was my destiny Sharon’s was to teach and she was the first to encourage me to sing. I loved her for it! In her happy, patient way she exposed me to rehearsal and repetition and the joy of singing – a primal urge that has always connected people. My family moved, we lost touch but I’d been inspired by Sharon and I kept singing and dancing. Now with the courage to continue to find great teachers.

From my home in New York City, via Face Book, I reconnected with Sharon 35 years later.  Imagine my thrill when I could tell her what an impact she’d on my life and career.  At 19 I got my first break when joined the original Australian production of “Cats” 5 years and 3 big shows later I headed for NYC.  That was 25 years ago and now my resume boasts award-winning Broadway musicals, plays, TV and film credits plus concerts at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera. I’ve shared the stage with Toni Lamond, Nancye Hayes, Marina Prior and partnered Broadway legends Kristin Chenoweth, Sarah Brightman, Chita Rivera, Bernadette Peters, Anne Reinking and the great Gwen Verdon, on some of the world’s greatest stages.  I had the pleasure of experiencing Sharon’s calm, caring and supportive approach again, when we reconnected a few years back for the first time since primary school. We rediscovered a Donny and Marie duet to perform for a group of primary school friends. I was so happy to learn that for Sharon the joy for her work is still there. Had I not sung with Sharon my dream may never have been realised.

Sharon’s destiny is to teach, to encourage, to impart the joy of performing and both our careers wind all the way back to her parent’s garage and Singing with Sharon.
